When the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) considered reducing or revoking protections for 27 national monuments, we needed people to speak out. And what better occasion than the Fourth of July to inspire Americans to stand up for the places that make this country beautiful?
Submitting public comments to the Interior Department doesn't sound like the most exciting way to get involved, so we used soul-stirring images to tap into people's love for this country's natural beauty.
This campaign helped Environment America and its coalition partners deliver more than 2.7 million public comments. Ultimately, the Interior Department decided not to revoke any of our monuments' protected status.
